Work, work, work
I haven’t blogged in quite a while, and I guess my only excuse for that it that I have been extremely busy at work. I’ve spent the last 3 weeks on soft tissue surgery which was wonderful, and on weekend emergency duty, which is always exciting (you never know what will walk through that door on the weekends!!). On surgery, we saw some very, very interesting cases, and had a few emergencies too, which was cool. Surgery and emergency and critical care medicine and my two special interests, so when we get a case that combines the two it’s really interesting for me (even if that means being in the O.R at 3am…) This rotation really re-confirmed that I want to be a surgeon when I grow up :) I am super excited right now because I just got permission to go to the American College of Veterinary Surgeons’ conference in Washington DC in October of this year! Fun times!
Right now I’m spending my days vaccinating puppies and kittens, and doing annual exams. Auburn has a “Community Practice” rotation, where students seen more general practice cases (like annual exams, stinky ears, vaccines, heartworm tests etc.). It’s been ok so far (definitely NOT what I want to do when I grow up!), and The Kid did get to go in on Tuesday to get micro-chipped. This is something I’ve wanted to do for a while, and I’m glad we finally got it taken care of. I almost passed out when I saw the 10 gauge needle we used to implant the chip, but she didn’t even flinch-what a trooper. She got lots of moist and tasty chicken snacks as a reward. Now I’m just counting down the days until I go to orthopedic surgery—orthopedic surgeons have really fun tools to play with!
That’s about it from Auburn. Just for fun, I’ve included a picture of some of the goats and kids we regularly pass on our bike rides. They’re always really cute…
