Cat has tagged me, so here are some weird things about me:
1. I don't watch television. Katrin and I don't have cable, and both of us spent most of our adult lives not even owning a TV set. This isn't a coincidence; it's one of the reasons we were set up by a friend in the first place. This often comes up in conversation (have you seen x-and-so commercial/trailer/show,) and is downright shocking to some people.
2. I have an affliction common to many computer programmers - we will spend hours writing a program that will never save us five minutes of work. This is totally illogical, but I guess we just enjoy building something and look for any excuse. This extends to other areas of my life; I'll fix things or build things that anyone else would just buy.
3. I make stuff out of cardboard. It's a cheap, light, easy to work with, and readily available fiber composite. This got me some laughs at work, where I made computer stands and a housing for an industrial printer.
4. Like Cat, I rehearse conversations in my head - but I cheat and repeat things until they're just right, so they always wind up sounding better in my head than any actual conversation I might have.
I can't think of anything else! I went to a lot of trouble to be weird in college, but it seems that I've turned out normal anyway.
5. I don't know if he still does this, but Jim kept his fingernails long for many years. Not because they were pretty, but because it was just so darn practical to have long fingernails. And maybe because he thought it looked cool, too.
6. Socks? What socks?
7. A wierdness shared with Tony, Jim takes vacation pictures of engineering feats. Like big bolts, fancy duct-work, bridge joists, that sort of thing. In New York, that'll get you arrested under suspicion of terrorism.
6. Not wearing socks is weird? Who knew? This is related to the fact that I don't like wearing tennis shoes. I'm more comfortable in simple leather dress shoes, which may have something to do with my years of wearing Catholic school uniforms.
7. Yeah, my mom has had to remind me to take pictures of myself.
