Thanksgiving

Is it Thanksgiving again? We're repeating holidays and parties that we were in Auburn for last year, which is a reminder of how long we've been here. Less than three years to go - not that we're getting tired of it. On the contrary, I'm really liking this town.

Tomorrow we're going to the annual resident and intern Thanksgiving dinner at Michelle and Eric's house. At least I am anyway - as the first year surgery resident, Katrin is on call over Thanksgiving. Hopefully nobody's pet will ingest a Turkey bone or other Thanksgiving paraphernalia tomorrow.

Michelle is off to practice Neurology in Florida in the spring, so Katrin and I are going to take over the Thanksgiving dinner next year. I hope there aren't any secrets to cooking turkeys that I don't know about - I'll have to pay attention tomorrow.

We gave up on turkeys because they're always too dry. We've made turducken breast the last few years and it's a big hit. We also did tofurkey a few times and that was not quite as big a hit.

I've heard of tofurkey, but never tried it. And I'm not sure exactly what a turducken is, but it's starting off at a disadvantage because it begins with "turd."

A turkey, stuffed with a duck stuffed with a chicken. The boneless version we buy also throws in some spicy cajun sausage.

No turd, all tasty. I'd send a picture, but we ate it all.

Don't bother with Tofurky. Fake meat is, well, fake. Nobody ever tries to make meat taste like veggies and there's a reason.

I am pretty sure that turducken
[TUR(key)DUC(k)(chick)KEN <-- the "K" placement has 1 df error]
was invented by John Madden. He is a football announcer. Football is this game played by overweight men wearing excessive brightly-colored padding who stand in the cold looking smug. It is the one little oversight on my part in choosing a soul mate that allows me to know this kind of thing.

Still, turducken is deliyumsty.
